Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

‘Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care’. This is the philosophy behind Pilling’s Motorcycle Training.

The CBT is not a “test”, it’s a training course with a certificate at the end of it (DL196). The CBT certificate validates your Driving Licence, allowing you to ride Mopeds and Motorcycles up to 125cc for 2 years from the date of issue of the CBT certificate. You must ride unaccompanied, you cannot ride on Motorways and L-plates must be displayed at both the front and rear of the machine.
To ride a Motorcycle, Scooter or Moped on a public road, you must complete a CBT course. (An exception relates to those who have a full car licence and the test was passed before 1 February 2001. These people can ride a Moped if their licence shows Category P as a Full entitlement).
The CBT course was devised and is governed by the Driving & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). It contains five elements, all of which are concerned with your safety. At Pillings your CBT course finishes when you have demonstrated to your Instructor and yourself that you will be safe out on the roads. A lot of people finish the course in one day but if you do not complete the course within the day, don’t worry as we will be only too happy to continue your CBT and finish your training at a mutually agreed time to suit*. If you want absolute piece of mind book our DELUXE CBT* allowing you to ride over two days.  Our price includes bike hire, insurance, petrol and motorcycle clothing use.
